Free Weekend Events, June 8-10

There is plenty to do this weekend. Including one of my favorite free festivals, the PBS KIDS in the Park.  We’ve enjoyed meeting the PBS characters each year and look forward to this year.

Friday, June 8:

What’s On Your Plate? Preschool Science Workshop@ Haughville Library

A look at the new MyPlate food guide, discover where food comes from, and find out which foods are good for our bodies.

Saturday, June 9:

PBS KIDS in the Park @ Military Park

The day will be filled with non-stop entertainment on three stages and opportunities to meet some of your favorite PBS KIDS walk-around characters, including Sesame Street‘s Walk-around Elmo.

Magic Mike’s “Hope Inspires Possibility” Magic Show@ East 38th St. Library

Children of all ages and families are invited to witness the amazing skills and positive message of Magic Mike.

Hold It! Family Activity @Indianapolis Museum of Art

Discover carts filled with objects everyone can hold and see up close.

Star(lite) Art Cart: Facilitated Art Making @ Indianapolis Museum of Art

Using paper rolling and filigree techniques, create a self-portrait.

Sunday, June 10:

Automaton Creation Workshop @ Central Library

Create an automaton figure with moving parts, such as arms and legs, and decorate it in the style of author and illustrator Brian Selznick.


Ages 6-12

Free (must register 275-4100)

Art in the Park @ Indianapolis Museum of Art

Bring a camera and let the park serve as your muse as you and your crew shoot pictures from unusual perspectives. Upload your pictures in the pavilion for others to see.
